안녕하세요.
We're Bangtan Scholars

A place for current and aspiring scholars of BTS to connect, inspire, and grow together.

In January 2020, the first-ever BTS conference (BTS: A Global Interdisciplinary Conference Project) was held in London.

What started off as conversations in Facebook groups and tweets between ARMYs who attended the conference and became friends, soon became a passion project driven by our love of BTS, research, and finding ways to better connect this community.

We're a network for connection, inspiration, and growth.

Whether you have been in your field or industry for decades, or you are a college student starting out on your path to research, we invite you to join us and be a part of this journey.

The Bangtan Scholars network aims to be an open and collaborative space where we can support each other as scholars at all levels.

It's our hope to create a collaborative network that empowers those engaging or interested in BTS scholarship to promote each other's work, exchange ideas, and expand knowledge across different disciplines and around the world.

"A Bangtan Scholar is anyone who engages in furthering knowledge and research on BTS-focused topics."
Bangtan Scholars
Founders

Simply put, a scholar can be described as a person devoted to learning who shares knowledge, ideas, and results in order to enhance understanding of a topic or area.

Connected through passion and interest in the greater impact of BTS, Bangtan Scholars are not limited to individuals in a specific discipline and come from diverse backgrounds and experience.

Cecilia identifies as a community-based creator, independent researcher, business strategist, and expert in marketing and branding. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication: Marketing and PR and received an MBA specialising in Branding from London.

Education has always been a passion for Cecilia. Specifically, she’s interested in the relationship between industries and fandom, particularly fan co-creation and community building. When not involved in the BTS fandom, she is a marketing and growth consultant.
Courtney

Courtney is a writer/editor with special interests in BTS studies, fan studies, ethics, and Korean history and culture. She's been an active member of ARMY since 2015. She received her BA in History (East Asia) and her MA in English before completing a Korean language program.

As a life-long learner, she continues to explore new topics and hopes to continue contributing to the growing body of research on BTS. Her work has been published in the Asia Marketing Journal, I Am ARMY: It’s Time To Begin, and PopCrush, among others. You can find her on The BTS Effect, where she currently posts content related to BTS, the Bangtan Universe, and ARMY.
Bex
Co-Founder & Production Designer
Rebecca (also known as Bex) is an ABD Theatre/Fine Arts PhD student at Texas Tech University focusing on the interdisciplinary nature of theatre and adaptations to the stage.  She has a BFA & MA in Theatre with a focus on directing, but has spent many years working in the film industry as well.  Her dissertation focuses on the spirit of adaptations as they transfer from the page and screen to the stage.

Bex is currently lost in a discord server known as Bangtan Academy, a study group that “got a bit bigger than planned” and is now a well-populated study school full of Korean Language students.  Normally she’s a university instructor of culture and performance.

If you want the read some of her writing, you can find a chapter on the adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail to Spamalot in Python Beyond Python; Critical Engagements with Culture. Before the pandemic she was seen out and about in London with other Bangtan Scholars at the BTS Conference in 2020, presenting on BTS as not just artists but Fine Artists.
